Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand: Marijuana Legalization 'gateway drug' myth, Big Pharma Opioid Pushers
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) appeared on Good Day New York to talk gun control when the subject of her support for the Marijuana Justice Act and the reefer madness talking point of cannabis being a “gateway drug.” was addressed.

Gillibrand on legalizing marijuana:

“It’s a criminal justice issue. Because of the criminal justice issues, because of the medical marijuana issues, this should be a legal product.”

“We’ve passed medical marijuana in our state. If it got to full federal legalization, what you’d be allowed then is, all that medical marijuana would be available no matter where you are. Today , if your a veteran and you want to go to the VA to get medical marijuana, you’re prohibited to do that, even if your state has already made medical marijuana legal.”

On marijuana as a ‘gateway drug” and the opioid crisis:

“I don’t see it as a gateway to opioids,” she said. “What I see is the opioid industry and the drug companies that manufacture it, some of them in particular, are just trying to sell more drugs that addict patients and addict people across this country.”

The New York Senator is up for reelection this year and is on the top of the list of potential presidential candidates in 2020, and her vocal support for the Marijuana Justice Act and medical marijuana is an indicator of the importance of cannabis legalization in the upcoming elections. Thanks, millennials!

  1. We should tar & feather every politician against it. With that being said, I don't think Cory Booker or Kirsten Gillibrand would legalize if they were President. If Obama didn't, I don't think they would. It will take a real, unbought Progressive like Bernie or Tulsi or Gavin Newsom to do it.
